LACTATION SUPPORT
Let’s work together to get your lactation goals off to a good start. This service is available on its own or in conjunction with postpartum support. Breast/chestfeeding typically isn’t as easy as it looks on tv and movies, it takes time, patience and determination. You and your baby(ies) are working together to find a rhythm that is both comfortable and efficient but like anything else, it takes knowledge and support.
we are here to support you on your breastfeeding journey

Most parents would say that having some prenatal education in lactation made a difference in their overall feeding success, and I would have to agree. We can discuss everything from breast changes, pre and postnatal hand expression, pumping, latching, induced lactation, and even donor milk. If further support is required, I can provide community referrals to local lactation consultants, physicians and clinics.
About Jen
Welcome to Purple Rose Doula Services. My name is Jen, and here is my story:
Motherhood for me wasn’t a seamless journey. Our first pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage, our second, a daughter, passed away shortly after her birth due to a severe birth defect. Following that loss, we found ourselves pregnant with our oldest son who was diagnosed in utero with a congenital heart defect. This resulted in several weeks in NICU, and four open heart surgeries within the first few years of his life. We were lucky enough to go on to have two more healthy children, however, they too were not textbook experiences, including some serious breastfeeding challenges. Through those experiences, I have learned just how valuable having the right support is, especially during the postpartum period.
Deciding to become a doula was not something I chose to do lightly. I felt like there was so much room for improvement when it came to the support parents receive, especially within the continuity of care. New families have a right to the best possible care and accessible resources.
My education did not end after my doula training and certification through DONA international. I have over 50 hours of Advanced Breastfeeding education, countless workshops and trainings, including but not limited to, LGBTQ+ Inclusivity and First Aid/CPR certification.
I volunteered with the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Centre from January 2020 until 2024. My roles have included: Peer Mentorship, Support Group co-facilitator as well as a helpline volunteer.
I am a member in good standing with the Calgary Doula Association and the past Membership Coordinator for the 2019/2020 & 2020/2021 years.
